The Yorketown Watertower Art, part of The Silo Art Movement, is a giant mural painted on the sides of a watertower. It was painted by Jasmine Crisp in March of 2021, and took her 37 days to complete. The artwork depicts significant aspects of the region's history.
Yorketown was established in the late 19th century, primarily as a service centre for the surrounding agricultural community. The area was initaly settled by sheep and grain farmers, and later developed an industry harvesting salt from the nearby salt lakes. The art features nods to these and other promenent parts of the town's history.
The Silo Art Movement began in 2018, aiming to document all of the silo and watertower art around Australia.
Visitors to Yorketown can appreciate both the artistic creation and the historical context it represents, making it an interesting destination on the Yorke Peninsula.
