Wudinna

South Australia's eyre-peninisula

Wudinna is a key service town located on the Eyre Highway in the heart of the Eyre Peninsula’s rich wheat-growing district, an area celebrated as "granite country." The town's name is derived from the local Aboriginal Barngarla word “Woodina,” meaning "granite hill," reflecting the region's defining geological characteristic.

Established in 1916, Wudinna serves as a vital hub for the surrounding agricultural community, a fact proudly commemorated by the impressive 8-metre-tall "Australian Farmer" granite sculpture that stands as a tribute to the area's pioneering settlers. This strong agricultural identity was recently recognised when Wudinna was named South Australia’s Agricultural Town of the Year in 2023.
