Wool Bay, originally called Pickering, is a small coastal town located between Stansbury and Coobowie on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula. The town was founded in 1876 and was later renamed in 1940 due to its notable jetty, which was wide enough to roll bales of wool down to the ships waiting below. Wool Bay was an important port for the region, exporting wool, grain, and lime.
One of its unique historical features is the remains of lime kilns, built into the cliffside, which were used for burning limestone, an essential industry in the early 20th century. Today, Wool Bay is known for its relaxed atmosphere, sandy beaches, and recreational fishing, making it a charming retreat for visitors.
