Point Labatt, also known as Cape Labatt, is a dramatic headland on the rugged west coast of South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, located approximately 50 kilometres south of Streaky Bay.
Its primary significance lies in hosting the largest and only permanent breeding colony of endangered Australian sea lions on the entire Australian mainland. This unique habitat has been protected since 1973, when the land was donated for conservation, and is now encompassed by the Point Labatt Conservation Park, the Point Labatt Aquatic Reserve, and the West Coast Bays Marine Park, ensuring the preservation of both the terrestrial and marine environments for this vital sea lion population.
