Palmer is a small town situated east of the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, along the Adelaide-Mannum Road, about 70 km from Adelaide and 15 km from Mannum. It was established as a mining and agricultural community, with its official layout taking place in 1873. The town was named after Colonel George Palmer, a South Australian Colonisation Commissioner.
One of its early industries was the Kitticoola Mine, discovered in 1845, known for copper and gold, and now a heritage-listed site. The surrounding region is noted for its distinctive granite rock formations and scenic views over the Murray Plains, making it a local geological highlight.
