Lucky Bay, located on the Spencer Gulf coast of the Eyre Peninsula, is a small but significant locality known for its dual role as a tranquil holiday spot and a strategic transport hub. Situated 17 kilometres southeast of Cowell, this coastal settlement is a popular destination for families and fishermen, offering a safe swimming beach, excellent fishing, and opportunities for crabbing.
The bay is characterised by a strip of coastal homes and shacks, with beach-launching access for small boats and a welcoming community atmosphere. Its adjacent waters are part of the Franklin Harbor Marine Park, recognised as one of the safest and best fishing areas in South Australia.
Beyond its recreational appeal, Lucky Bay serves as a vital terminus for both passenger and freight transport. It is the Eyre Peninsula home of SeaSA’s Spencer Gulf Searoad ferry, which provides a crucial link for vehicles and passengers to Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula, significantly reducing travel time around the gulf.
