Glendambo is a quaint yet historically rich, little town nestled along the Eyre Highway in South Australia. It stands as a vital waypoint for those traversing the Nullarbor Plain. Founded in the late 1960s and officially established on 13 May 1982, the town takes its name from the Glendambo Homestead.
One of the standout historical features of Glendambo is its contribution to the Eyre Highway, which was inaugurated in 1941. This highway is not only crucial for linking the eastern and western regions of Australia but also plays a pivotal role in the transportation of goods and people across the Nullarbor.
Situated 592 km from Adelaide and 186 km north of Port Augusta on the Stuart Highway, Glendambo is a crucial pit stop, particularly when heading north, as there are no amenities for a staggering 254 km until you reach Coober Pedy. It has a modest population of around 30 and an annual rainfall of a mere 185 mm.
