Southern Yorke Peninsula is South Australia’s coastal wilderness playground. Innes National Park and the surrounding area has some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world. It has an abundance of wildlife including Emus, Kangaroos, Birds, Dolphins and Whales (in winter).

One and a half hours after leaving Adelaide be introduced to the local Aboriginal traditional owners. Explore their ancient landscapes and listen to Dreaming stories and share some of their culture. Come fishing, swim in clear lagoons and try surfing. Walk along deserted beaches with pure white sand and rolling ocean waves that go on forever! In the evenings enjoy the local produce and seafood before settling down for the night in our comfortable coastal accommodation.

You will even be able to try some excellent local wines, with a visit to Barley Stacks Winery.

This is the Yorke Peninsula Tour that has it all! Aboriginal Culture, Wildlife, Beaches, Rugged Cliffs and Coastline, Fishing, Surfing, Spectacular Scenery and even a visit to a local winery.

This tour is great in both summer and winter, with sunny beaches and swimming in the warmer months and amazing rugged coasts, big waves and whale watching in the cooler months.

DAY 1

Commence your wilderness journey heading north via the old coastal towns of Port Wakefield and Port Germein, which boasts the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. During the safari your Tour Guide will introduce you to a remarkable and resilient history of both Aboriginal and white settlement in S.A.

Be amazed by the beauty of the Southern Flinders Ranges, 600 million year old mountain peaks and spectacular views over Spencer Gulf. Travel through the picturesque Pichi Richi Pass to the historic township of Quorn. With its typical outback buildings and the original Ghan Railway station, Quorn has been the setting for many iconic Australian films.

Follow in the path of our early explorers driving to Warren Gorge Conservation Park to search for rare and elusive Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies. Dramatic rock outcrops harbour these endangered wallabies with only an estimated 8,000 living in the wild. Sit back in the comfortable, fully equipped 4WD vehicle as we head along the remote tracks through the deserted Willochra Plains where eagles soar and emus run free.

Overnight: Wilpena Pound, Rawnsley Park Resort or Quorn Motel (depending on availability)

World-renowned South Australian painter, Sir Hans Heysen was inspired by this country and painted many of his landscapes here.

After a scrumptious picnic lunch, immerse yourself in the ancient landscape; take that special photograph from Razor Back Lookout or just enjoy some of the most spectacular outback scenery Australia has to offer. Wildlife including Kangaroos, Emus and Wedge tailed Eagles are prolific in this rugged terrain and are usually spotted in abundance in the late afternoon.

Coffee break is at the Ardrossan Country Bakery, famous for its delicious homemade goodies.
Walk to Ochre Cliffs and discover coloured clays that have been used in Aboriginal ceremonies for thousands of years. You will be shown things that not many people even know about, including an ancient man-made fish trap made of heavy rocks that the Adjahdura people used for thousands of years.

Head south down the eastern side of Yorke Peninsula, through one of the best barley growing areas in the world, an essential component of our outstanding local beers. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the cliffs near Troubridge Point before making our way to the clear blue waters of Spencer Gulf.

Explore beautiful coastal tracks and small fishing villages before leaving our bags at our overnight accommodation. Here we find some of the world’s most spectacular coastal scenery. DAY 5

A full day exploring beautiful Innes National Park and the spectacular, wild coastline of Southern Yorke Peninsula. Soaring cliffs and magnificent views over Kangaroo Island; this is a photographer’s dream! Walk, swim, explore pristine beaches. Come face-to-face with the abundant wildlife.

Explore the ruins of Inneston, an abandoned gypsum town along the Inneston Historic Walk. Home to around 200 people, Inneston was completely self-sufficient, having its own school, post office, bakery and general store. Over 26 shipwrecks lie off this coast. An interpretive maritime trail along the coastline recounts tales of tragedy, bravery and the final agonizing moments before these ships sank beneath the waves. Visit the rusted relic of the park’s most famous wreck, ‘The Ethel’, that sank in 1904 when it ran aground near the beach during a severe storm.

Take a short walk to the operating lighthouses at Cape Spencer and West Cape. On the horizon is another lighthouse on Althorpe Island Conservation Park. These not only provide safe passage for vessels today but offer an insight into the area’s maritime heritage.

At the end of the day capture a magical South Aussie sunset over the ocean.

Overnight: Holiday Home: The Pines/Caravan Park: Corny Point.

Grab a fishing rod (provided) and try the great Australian experience of beach fishing for the sought-after King George Whiting. Southern Right Whales visit in winter and can be seen from a number of vantage points.

On our way home we visit the Barley Stacks Winery to enjoy the local drop. Established in 1996, this winery is the first commercial vineyard/winery established on the traditional barley belt of Yorke Peninsula, which is renowned for growing the world’s best malting barley.
