DAY 1
Our adventure heads south through the beautiful rolling hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula to Deep Creek
Conservation Park. This 4000 hectare park has spectacular coastal views to Kangaroo Island, rugged cliffs, wild orchids and ferns growing by gully creeks. It is home to brightly coloured parrots and a multitude of kangaroos that feed in the open grasslands.
Travel along the beautiful coast to Victor Harbor, a historic town that was once a major whaling centre. With the hunters long gone, the whales may be seen in the winter months frolicking in these protected coastal waters. Close by is Urimbirra Wildlife Park, a special experience where you will meet a koala up close and personal! In addition, this sanctuary is home to parrots, cockatoos, kookaburras, eagles as well as dingoes, wombats and kangaroos.
Continue to the historic village of Goolwa, which was a thriving port in the days when paddle steamers traded up and down the Murray River. Here the Murray River, Australia’s largest waterway, is separated from the sea by only a very narrow strip of sand dunes. We will make our way down to Goolwa Beach and it’s huge expanse of sand that stretches as far as the eye can see. The distance is hidden in the mist of the surf that rolls in from the Great Southern Ocean.
Travelling back towards the Mt Lofty Ranges we pass through Strathalbyn, one of South
Australia’s prettiest towns, which was settled by Scottish immigrants. Then stop at a one of the region’s wineries giving us the opportunity to taste some excellent local wines. The scenic drive through the hills surrounding Adelaide brings you back home to complete your day of surf, sand, scenery and wine.
Arrive Adelaide at approximately 5:30pm.
